LOS ANGELES, March 19, 2009 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company has signed an agreement with EADS Secure Networks North America to pursue the Los Angeles Regional Interoperable Communications System contract.

EADS Secure Networks North America, a division of PlantCML®, joins the Raytheon-led team, which includes Etherstack and Powerwave Technologies. The team will propose an integrated wireless voice and data communications system that enables more than 34,000 Los Angeles first responders to communicate more effectively during daily operations, a natural disaster or a terrorist attack.

"The Los Angeles region represents a complex challenge as numerous public safety agencies join to improve response efforts and safety for the area," said Jerry Powlen, vice president of Integrated Communications Systems for Raytheon Network Centric Systems. "Raytheon's integration experience, our combined open-standards technology solutions and established market presence uniquely position our team to provide an effective integrated system to support the customer."

"Our Secure Networks division brings extensive large-scale radio system deployment experience and P25 standards expertise to the Raytheon team," said Tim Fuller, chief executive officer, PlantCML, an EADS North America company. "The team's approach allows Los Angeles first responders, who already have a long history of using PlantCML's E9-1-1 call center solutions, the flexibility to procure best value technology and avoid becoming locked into a proprietary solution."
