Raytheon's Mobile Air Traffic Control System Makes International Debut at ATC Global Exhibition and Conference

Modular system enables humanitarian aid deliveries in emergencies

AMSTERDAM, March 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Mobile Air Traffic Control (MATC) system, which provides critical air traffic services when existing infrastructure has been damaged or does not exist, makes its international debut at the ATC Global Exhibition and Conference March 6-8.

MATC is designed to operate during emergencies, for security purposes, or to meet the needs of a temporary airfield. The system consists of primary and secondary ATC radars integrated with a quick set-up, deployable radar antenna and secure, networked data communications. The system can be up and running within hours by a minimal number of people, limiting flight disruptions.

"I have been in disaster situations where existing ATC has been destroyed and have seen firsthand the human toll caused by delays in aid being delivered quickly," said Stephen DuMont, director of International Air Traffic Management for Raytheon's Network Centric Systems business. "It is vital to the humanitarian effort to have effective ATC in place to enable urgent deliveries by air, and that is why we developed a rapidly deployable MATC system."

Raytheon has developed a low-risk, highly interoperable solution through the incorporation of fielded and proven subsystems, including the Digital Airport Surveillance Radar (DASR)/ASR-11, the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) and Raytheon's AutoTrac III, a fully integrated surveillance and flight data processing system. Raytheon is in full-rate production of these systems.

MATC includes three shelters to transport and house the radar, communications and operations equipment, all of which can be moved anywhere in the world by land, sea or air.

The interoperable system, which meets stringent U.S. and international regulations, is designed to support both civil and military ATC operations and communicate with other air traffic services and battle command systems.
