Raytheon to Host Border Security Case Study and Webinar

EL PASO, Texas, Aug. 14, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- A senior government official from Brazil will discuss how the country partnered with industry to secure 2.3 million square miles of the Amazon during the world's largest environmental monitoring and protection program.

The discussion will take place during a border security case study and webinar broadcast live from GovExec.com (http://www.govexec.com/) Aug. 15 (11:30 a.m. MT; 1:30 p.m. ET). It will be held at the Border Security Conference hosted by the University of Texas at El Paso and the office of Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-El Paso.

Brazilian Air Force Brig. Ar Alvaro L. Pinheiro, who led the System for Vigilance of the Amazon (SIVAM) program, and Matt Gilligan, Raytheon SIVAM program manager, will discuss the overall program objectives, program management and execution, and overall results.

Gilligan will provide the industry perspective on partnering with government to deploy a monitoring and protection program over a large and diverse geography with multiple levels of integration.

As SIVAM's prime system integrator for the multi-billion dollar program, Raytheon managed a team of more than 30 major subcontractors during the project's implementation. The contract began in 1997 and was inaugurated on time in 2002, with full operations in effect in 2004. Two Brazilian companies, ASTECH and Embraer, were also selected by the Brazilian government to help supply and integrate the system across the Amazon region.
