The report is available to view and download on Raytheon's website at http://www.raytheon.com/responsibility.
"Raytheon continues to strengthen and broaden its commitment to corporate responsibility, and our gains have been measurable and meaningful," said Raytheon Chairman and CEO William H. Swanson. "Our results are a credit to the strong support of our Board, our leadership and our 72,000 employees."
Here are some highlights of the new Raytheon Corporate Responsibility Report:
- Governance: Raytheon continues to be a leader in contemporary governance practices with a consistent focus on independent board oversight, accountability, transparency, and open and proactive communication with our constituents. For example, the company adopted provisions in 2010 allowing shareholders holding 25 percent or more of the company's stock to call a special shareholder meeting.
- Ethics: Raytheon's comprehensive ethics program nurtures and supports the company's values and commitment to a culture of integrity. In the company's 2010 Employee Opinion Survey, the relevance and usefulness of ethics education was favorably rated by the vast majority of respondents. Ethics education is delivered to employees in a number of ways, including "Ethics Checkpoint" sessions in which employees learn to pause, take an ethics check, and then proceed with the best course of action.
- Engineering, Technology and Mission Assurance: Raytheon's ET&MA organization provides innovative technology solutions to meet customer needs, including Raytheon's Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer that helped the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration keep tabs on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and provided daily images of ash plumes from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland.
- Diversity: Diversity at Raytheon is about inclusiveness, providing an atmosphere where everyone feels valued and empowered to perform at a peak level. Careers & the disaABLED, Minority Engineer and Equal Opportunity Magazines recognized the company for its commitment to recruiting, hiring and promoting a positive work environment for the magazines' respective audiences.
- Safety and Wellness: Through world-class safety and wellness programs, the company seeks to protect its people and improve the quality of life enjoyed by all members of the Raytheon community. Since 1999, the company has reduced its OSHA recordable injury rate by 65 percent and its lost workday injury rate by 52 percent. The company also recognizes its locations across the U.S. and Canada with the company's annual Healthy Worksite award for supporting and fostering a culture of wellness and encouraging employee engagement. In total, approximately 55,000 employees work at a site that has been given this designation.
- Sustainability: Raytheon's sustainability program seeks to enhance the company's activities to protect our environment and conserve natural resources by engaging employees, customers, suppliers and communities. - Supporting our Communities: Raytheon's approach to community involvement includes math and science education and armed services support. In 2010, the company built on its popular MathMovesU® initiative; partnered with the Business-Higher Education Forum to unveil a new state-level STEM modeling program and Web-based tool to help policy-makers, educators and researchers; and provided a $2.5 million grant and partnership to support the Wounded Warrior Project's Economic Empowerment programs.
