TEWKSBURY, Mass., April 3, 2007 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Common Aviation Command and Control System (CAC2S) demonstrated its battlefield prowess to the Marine Corps by successfully supporting a Transition Task Force Simulation Exercise March 21-22 at the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity, Camp Pendleton, Calif. "During rigorous training scenarios designed to put the system to the test, CAC2S performed superbly providing the Marines a streamlined enhanced capability to communicate at both the tactical and operational levels," said Craig Herriott, CAC2S program manager for Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. "CAC2S provides our Marines with a capability that expands the battlefield dominance."

CAC2S is the model for mobile air combat control for expeditionary forces enabled through open architecture and affordable through reuse and the open business model. The system provided sensor netting and communications connectivity for a variety of tactical and operational voice communications requirements during multiple combat scenarios as part of the robust series of command and control exercises. The Marine Corps crew was configured in a combined Tactical Air Operations Center and Direct Air Support Center that was supported by the CAC2S multi-function node.

Tactical communications for the exercise consisted of voice communications, radio, telephone, internal communications system with 14 radio circuits, four direct-access trunks, and 20 telephone circuits supporting 25 manned warfighter positions. Operational scenarios included battlefield air interdiction, close air support, deep air strikes, post strike battle damage assessment reporting, auto identification doctrine, air tasking order identification, correlation and association, and anti-air warfare.

Exercise participants included Marines from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Cherry Point N.C., and from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing's Marine Corps Air Stations located in Miramar, Calif., and Yuma, Ariz.
