TEWKSBURY, Mass., and RESTON, Va., June 18, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) sites have been awarded the 2008 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award from the Defense Security Service (DSS).

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems' Seapower Capability Center, Portsmouth, R.I., and Raytheon Technical Services Company's Sea Lite Beam Director (SLBD), White Sands Missile Range, N.M., were among 23 facilities named by DSS as this year's winners.

The Seapower Capability Center is IDS' primary naval business mission center dedicated to the development and delivery of critical seapower capabilities to the global joint battlespace. With a history of proven performance on several vital Navy programs, including the Zumwalt-class destroyer and Virginia-class submarines, the Seapower Capability System business area is a leading provider and integrator of submarine and surface ship combat management, anti-submarine, mine warfare, and integrated ship systems, as well as sensors and torpedoes for U.S. and allied fleets.

Raytheon Technical Services Company's Sea Lite Beam Director (SLBD) program operates out of the U.S. Army's High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility at White Sands Missile Range. The SLBD program's primary scope is to assist the prime (Northrop Grumman IT) with placing Mid-Infrared Advance Chemical laser energy on U.S. Air Force wind tunnel mounted targets.

To earn the Cogswell award, DSS criteria requires that a facility be nominated by its assigned Industrial Security Representative and have two consecutive superior industrial security review ratings. The facility must also display a sustained degree of excellence and innovation in its overall security program management, implementation and oversight.

Of the nearly 12,000 cleared contractors in the United States, less than one percent receives the award each year.
