Dr. Thomas Kennedy to Lead New Organization at Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Feb. 11, 2005 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Thomas A. Kennedy has been appointed vice president for the expanded Integrated Airborne Systems business of Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS). (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040210/NETU006 ) The expanded business combines the Unmanned and Reconnaissance Systems (URS) and the Integrated Airborne Systems (IAS) activities of SAS. Kennedy had headed URS. Richard R. Anderson, who announced his retirement, had led IAS. "I want to thank Rich Anderson for his many contributions to SAS and to me, both personally as well as professionally," Jack R. Kelble, president of SAS, said. "Effective immediately, we are combining the URS and IAS businesses under the leadership of Tom Kennedy to optimize resources to focus on customer satisfaction, execution and growth." Kennedy leads the participation by SAS in the Global Hawk, Joint Unmanned Combat Air System and U-2 programs. He also directs pursuits of additional unmanned-systems business. His expanded responsibilities bring under his leadership SAS participation in such programs as Airborne Standoff Radar (ASTOR), Multi-platform Technology Insertion (MP-RTIP), E-10A Multi-sensor Command and Control (MC2A) and High Integrity Surveillance and Reconnaissance (HISAR). Kennedy, who holds a doctoral degree in engineering from the University of California Los Angeles, joined Raytheon in 1983. He directed the capture by the company of the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar Program for the F/A-18 Super Hornet, currently in flight test by the U.S. Navy. In 2003 he was part of the team that received the Laureate Award from Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine for achievements on the AESA program. Before joining Raytheon, Kennedy served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, managing development and production of avionic systems for satellite launch vehicles.
