WALTHAM, Mass., March 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fifth consecutive year, Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) was recognized with the 2012 ENERGY STAR® Sustained Excellence Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for ongoing leadership in energy conservation, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and innovative energy efficiency practices. Raytheon received its award at an EPA ceremony yesterday in Washington, D.C.

Raytheon was selected for the Sustained Excellence Award from about 20,000 public and private sector ENERGY STAR partners. The company has received eight awards in its 12 years of participation in the ENERGY STAR program.

Raytheon's achievements in energy conservation are driven by a dedicated team of energy professionals who focus on identifying and implementing energy conservation strategies and measures throughout the company.

Their efforts resulted in numerous energy conservation and sustainability accomplishments in 2011, including:

• Reaching a 5 percent absolute reduction in energy consumption, resulting in more than $5 million in annual savings;
• Reducing 55,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to removing the emissions of 11,000 vehicles per year;
• Engaging and empowering more than 37,000 employees to take a new "lifetime pledge" to everyday energy conservation practices;
• Training hundreds of "Energy Champions" to strengthen the company's network of 1,500 sustainability volunteers;
• Sharing company best practices with more than 1,100 people in industry and federal, state and local organizations, including both existing and prospective ENERGY STAR partners.
