WASHINGTON, May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) honored Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Mark E. Russell and James A. Horkovich with the distinction of 2012 AIAA Fellows during the Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala on Wednesday, May 9, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

Russell is Raytheon vice president of Engineering, Technology and Mission Assurance. He has published many peer-reviewed papers on active electronically steered arrays and radar systems, missiles, photonic technology, solid-state transmitters and communications systems. Russell holds patents in the areas of microwave and millimeter wave components, high-range resolution radar applications and missile seekers.

Horkovich is chief engineer of the Collaborative Weapons project in the Advanced Missiles and Unmanned Systems product line at Raytheon Missile Systems. An active member of the AIAA during the past 37 years, he has chaired the Directed Energy Program Committee and the Biennial Forum for Weapon Systems Effectiveness. Horkovich is member emeritus of the Plasmadynamics and Lasers Technical Committee. He is also a member of the Emerging Technologies Committee, the Weapon Systems Effectiveness Technical Committee and the Professional Member Education Committee.

The prestigious honor of AIAA Fellow is conferred upon members of the Institute who have made notable and valuable contributions to the arts, sciences or the technology of aeronautics and astronautics. Only 28 of the AIAA's members were awarded this distinction in 2012.
