Raytheon Receives Employer of the Year Award for Service to Veterans from California Employment Development Department
RESTON, Va., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company's National Training Center site at Fort Irwin, Calif., has received the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD) Employer of the Year Award for providing outstanding employment service to veterans in the Barstow and Victorville areas near Fort Irwin. Herb K. Schultz, acting director of EDD, presented the award to Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC on May 7, 2004, during the California Employer Advisory Council Annual Conference (CEAC) at the Hilton Arden West Hotel in Sacramento. The certificate of award was signed by Helen Winchester, president, CEAC Executive Board, and Cal Farmer, chair, CEAC Veterans Executive Committee. "Raytheon is dedicated to providing the best possible employment opportunities to all employees, and we're pleased to be recognized for our inclusive hiring practices," said Bryan J. Even, a Raytheon vice president and president of RTSC. "Simply put, hiring and retaining diverse employees with unique skill sets and experience-such as those veterans bring to our workforce-is good business." "Many of the tasks we perform are unique to military service, and veterans bring skills and work habits from their military service that reduce our training requirements," added Jim McKnight, RTSC site manager at the Army's National Training Center. "Raytheon is proud to partner with the Army at the National Training Center in its effort to prepare our troops for war, and Raytheon's employment of skilled veterans enhances that partnership." RTSC employs nearly 400 people in the Barstow/Victorville area, and roughly half of those are veterans. RTSC's National Training Center site was nominated for the award in the category of private employers with more than 200 employees. The local Barstow/Victorville job service office of the EDD submitted the nomination. Judging was done at the state level, according to Helen Griego, the EDD employment program representative who nominated RTSC for the award. Griego pointed out that numerous employers in several different categories were nominated for the award by local EDD job service offices throughout the state. RTSC provides the Army's National Training Center at Fort Irwin with operations, maintenance and field engineering services; tactical and operational scenario writing, planning and exercise control; and data collection, training analysis, analysis support, real-time after action reviews and training device products. The program also provides worldwide instructional and maintenance support of Tactical Engagement Systems.
