Raytheon achieves industry-first milestone: delivers more than 500 tactical AESA radars
Active electronically scanned array portfolio also achieves more than 400,000 operational flight hours on multiple platforms worldwide
PARIS, June 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) announced today it has delivered more than 500 tactical active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars for multiple platforms worldwide -- an industry first. The company's AESA portfolio -- including the APG-79, APG-63(V)3 and APG-82(V)1 radars -- has also achieved more than 400,000 cumulative operational flight hours on F-15, F/A-18E/F and EA-18G aircraft.
"Raytheon pioneered the development of tactical AESA radar more than a decade ago," said Mark Kula, vice president of Tactical Airborne Systems for Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems business. "Today, with more than 500 systems delivered, we reconfirm our commitment to produce game-changing and life-saving radar technology for warfighters around the world for years to come."
Raytheon designed, developed and fielded the world's first operational AESA radar for fighter aircraft in 2000. Since being introduced, Raytheon's AESA systems have demonstrated significant reductions in customers' operational lifecycle costs, providing significant improvement in system reliability compared with mechanically scanned array radars.
Recently, the U.S. Air Force completed development testing of Raytheon's next generation APG-82(V)1 AESA radar for the F-15E Strike Eagle, and began operational testing and evaluation in March 2013. Initial operational test and evaluation is an integral part of the U.S. Air Force's Radar Modernization Program to ensure F-15E mission superiority in an increasingly sophisticated threat environment.
Raytheon's multi-mode, multi-function family of AESA radars delivers a dramatic increase in warfighter capability -- including simultaneous air-to-air and air-to-ground operations, along with superior detection, targeting, tracking and self-protection features.
