MathAlive! is a 465-square-meter (5,000 square feet) dual-language traveling education exhibition, designed to bring to life the "real" math behind the things young people love most — video games, sports, robotics and more — creating interactive and immersive experiences that help spark a lasting interest in math and science in school, college and, ultimately, the workplace.
"Bringing MathAlive! to the Middle East reinforces Raytheon's long-term commitment to the region," said William H. Swanson, Chairman and CEO of Raytheon Company. "With our nearly 50 years of building relationships in the region, we know that math education is a priority. Our new MathAlive! exhibit is specifically designed and built for the Middle East and includes elements relevant to the region's young students. We hope that it inspires countless students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math."
MathAlive! is embarking on a five-year tour of the Gulf region, stopping at multiple venues to provide direct support for the successful growth and development of the Middle East's technology industrial base. It contains exciting educational content relating to mathematics at work around the world, including historical achievements of Gulf region mathematicians and scholars, as well as the work of those who will shape the future of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The initiative is a core component of Raytheon's MathMovesU® program, which is designed to inspire students to develop an interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and to encourage the pursuit of STEM careers, critical to global innovation and economic growth.
MathAlive! expands the portfolio of science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related education programs supported by Raytheon in the Middle East, including: an Engineering Master's degree program with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and Johns Hopkins University; support for the HCT events, Education without Borders and Festival of Thinkers; leadership development programs in partnership with Khalifa University in the UAE and the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission; and a series of technology symposia at King Saud University in Riyadh, as well as education workshops with HCT in the UAE.
Raytheon's MathAlive! exhibit is at the Abu Dhabi Science Festival in Abu Dhabi du Forum Yas Island through Nov. 23, 2013. To learn more about MathAlive! in the Middle East, visit www.mathalive-me.com.
