Raytheon Receives Seventh Consecutive ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award
Company recognized for superior energy efficiency
WALTHAM, Mass., June 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) with a 2014 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award for continued leadership in protecting our environment through superior energy efficiency.
This is the seventh consecutive year Raytheon has received this specific award and the tenth time in 14 years the company has been recognized by the ENERGY STAR program.
"Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of Raytheon's Sustainability program, which seeks to implement programs that protect our environment and conserve natural resources," said Thomas A. Kennedy, CEO of Raytheon. "With guidance and support from the ENERGY STAR program, Raytheon and its employees have implemented hundreds of energy-efficiency projects, which have reduced costs and our carbon footprint."
Together, through Raytheon's sustainability program, the company and its employees have achieved many sustainability energy goals, including:
- Reducing energy consumption by 19 percent since 2002, cumulatively reducing energy costs by $123 million
- Cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent since 2002, cumulatively preventing 1.3 million metric tons of emissions
- Achieving its 2008–2015 energy reduction goal of 10 percent ̶ two years ahead of schedule
- Completing hundreds of energy projects with estimated annual savings of over two million kWh
- Assisting customers, suppliers and contractors in reducing operating costs and carbon footprints
In addition, the company was a charter member to U.S. EPA's Climate Leaders Program and has received two Climate Leadership awards from the Environmental Protection Agency in 2009 and 2013 for achieving reduction goals.
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy to help businesses and individuals save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. Raytheon has participated since 1999 in this voluntary partnership between the private and public sectors to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased energy efficiency.
