Raytheon Receives $75 Million Satellite Communications Contract for Mission Support Services

MCKINNEY, Texas, July 13, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- With its significant number of satellite communication (SATCOM) systems installed throughout the Navy's fleet, Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has been awarded a five-year, $75 million contract for ongoing mission support for more than 300 of these systems.

As part of the contract, Raytheon will have responsibility for maintaining and upgrading the SATCOM terminals and keeping them in service throughout their life. Raytheon, with responsibility for both below deck electronics and above deck antennas, has fielded and installed more than 500 Navy SATCOM systems during the last 20 years.

The company's mission support services include maintaining and upgrading software and hardware components, providing technology upgrades as needed and delivering field service support.

According to Jerry Powlen, vice president, Integrated Communications Systems, the Navy chose to extend the service life of many of these systems -- some of which are more than 20 years old -- because of their performance and reliability and Raytheon's mission support services to date.

"As it transitions to the Navy Multi-band Terminal, our customer is continuing to support and expand Raytheon's existing Navy SATCOM solutions," added Powlen. "We designed and manufactured these systems and have the domain knowledge to ensure they perform well into the next decade."

Raytheon Company, with 2005 sales of $21.9 billion, is an industry leader in defense and government electronics, space, information technology, technical services, and business and special mission aircraft. With headquarters in Waltham, Mass., Raytheon employs 80,000 people worldwide.
