Raytheon Wins Joint Environmental Toolkit Contract
OMAHA, Neb., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has been awarded a Phase One Air Force contract worth $4.3 million over 15 months for the Joint Environmental Toolkit (JET) program. The win positions the Raytheon team for a subsequent development program estimated at more than $70 million. The objective of the JET acquisition is to replace legacy weather systems with a single, integrated capability providing tailored weather products to users, interfacing with command and control systems, and implementing the "to be" architecture for the Air Force Weather Weapon System (AFWWS). The program will employ evolutionary acquisition concepts to deliver a scalable hardware and software system to provide commonality and meet Air Force and Army needs for weather forecast generation, meteorological watch, and observation management, with increased accuracy and decreased latency. The JET Program Office (Air Force Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.) awarded one of two contracts to an industry team led by Raytheon to deliver the Phase One JET capability to replace existing systems for combat weather teams, whether operating stateside or deployed in the field. The Air Force plans to award a final Phase Two contract in October 2005. Work will be conducted in Omaha, Neb. "Raytheon is proud to continue our support to the Air Force Weather Weapon System," said Ray Kolibaba, vice president of Space Systems for Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems. "Our team is focused on supporting the Air Force Electronic Systems Center in transforming the AFWWS to substantially enhance battlespace awareness for the warfighter."
