Raytheon's Emergency Patient Tracking System Receives Computerworld Honors Program® Award
MARLBOROUGH, Mass., April 30, 2007 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Emergency Patient Tracking System, or EPTS, will receive a Computerworld Honors Program Laureate award at the 19th Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony June 4, 2007, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
EPTS is an information technology solution that facilitates the triage, treatment and transport of victims during mass casualty incidents. EPTS is also used for tracking vital assets, including emergency vehicles, during major incidents and in day-to-day operations.
"The present method of handling mass casualty triage is often slow, cumbersome, and at its worst, chaotic," said Jerry Powlen, vice president, Network Centric Systems' Integrated Communications Systems. "With EPTS, first responders can quickly gather on-scene casualty information, designate transport locations, and disseminate the information to command centers, hospitals and support agencies."
"Each year, the Computerworld Honors Program seeks to recognize organizations from a variety of sectors for their ongoing efforts to utilize technology in order to benefit society," said Ron Milton, chairman of the board of trustees for the Computerworld Information Technology Awards Foundation and executive vice president of Computerworld. "We are proud to provide a platform to publicly acknowledge these contributions."
Raytheon Company, with 2006 sales of $20.3 billion, is a technology leader specializing in defense, homeland security and other government markets throughout the world. With a history of innovation spanning 85 years, Raytheon provides state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing; effects; and command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a broad range of mission support services. With headquarters in Waltham, Mass., Raytheon employs 73,000 people worldwide.
Note to Editors:
EPTS automates the collection and dissemination of patient information and status through use of patient medical identification tags containing bar codes with the patient's current location, medical status, and demographics. Personal Digital Assistants transfer this information via a wireless connection to a Web-enabled, secure database. The database provides hospitals and emergency personnel with patients' information.
The Computerworld Honors Program is governed by the Computerworld Information Technology Awards Foundation, a Massachusetts not-for-profit corporation. For additional information about the honors program, go to: http://www.cwhonors.org/.
