Raytheon's Frederick Honored for Achievements in Missile Defense
ARLINGTON, Va., May 3, 2007 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. William Frederick, senior member of the corporate executive staff of Photon Research Associates Inc., a subsidiary of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), was recognized for his work as the key developer and advocate for technology benefiting the Strategic Defense Initiative and Ballistic Missile Defense organizations and critical U.S. Air Force space-based missions.
Frederick recently received the Missile Defense Technology Pioneer Award at the fifth annual Missile Defense Conference in Washington, D.C. This award highlights his significant achievements in missile defense, such as the development of HgCdTe (mercury cadmium telluride) and doped-silicon infrared focal plane arrays. Additional accomplishments include his management of several space-based experiments to develop target signature and background databases for the BMD system.

Since joining Photon Research Associates Inc. in March 2001, Frederick has managed programs in radar and infrared threat characterization, ballistic missile plume and target phenomenology, and discrimination algorithm development, as well as optical/infrared measurements. In addition to these program responsibilities, Frederick played a transitional role in the acquisition of PRA by Raytheon in October 2004.
