Raytheon Announces $850K Grant to Tuskegee University
WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has announced a commitment of $850,000 to Tuskegee University in Alabama to help Tuskegee attract high potential students in math and engineering. The program encourages the pursuit of math and science careers for students and supports Raytheon's efforts to create an inclusive workforce. "We're helping Tuskegee attract talented students and create a stronger, more diverse math and engineering talent pool," said William H. Swanson, Raytheon Company Chairman and CEO. "This grant helps promote math and engineering education, which is a focus of our contribution programs," Swanson said. Tuskegee University's President, Dr. Benjamin F. Payton, said he is "excited about Raytheon's commitment to support Tuskegee." "Raytheon's contribution underscores the importance of preparing a skilled, well-educated, and diverse work force, particularly in the technological and scientific processes of tomorrow," Payton said. The initiative will allow Tuskegee to provide scholarships for a select number of highly talented undergraduate students majoring in engineering and computer science. As part of the initiative, students will be assigned important research and development projects, enabling them to apply their knowledge to technical challenges, preparing them for future careers in engineering. The program is scheduled to begin this fall.
