Raytheon Named Lead Systems Integrator for U.S. Navy Submarine Combat System
TEWKSBURY, Mass., Oct. 25, 2004 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company will serve as the lead systems integrator for AN/BYG-1, the next generation combat system for the U.S. Navy submarine fleet. As the AN/BYG-1 integrator for the existing U.S. Navy contract, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) will backfit both Los Angeles-class and Seawolf-class combat systems. This role builds upon Raytheon's success as the developer of the AN/BYG-1 weapons control subsystem. As lead systems integrator, IDS will integrate the tactical control, weapons control, and tactical network subsystems, each of which incorporates a variety of advanced process build software algorithms developed by a host of industry, government, and academia sources. Relying on its extensive experience and expertise to manage the complexities of the system, the rapid pace of technology insertion, the number of participants involved, and the multiple software builds, Raytheon will provide the integration and coordination required to ensure complete end-to- end functionality. "As the mission systems integrator in this role, Raytheon is able to achieve a long-standing goal of the U.S. Navy for a common combat systems approach to outfit the entire U.S. submarine fleet with a fully compatible and interoperable combat systems baseline," said Upinder Dhinsa, IDS' vice president of Naval Integrated Systems. "This role strengthens Raytheon's solutions-based focus on providing superior capabilities to the warfighter." Raytheon will work in close partnership with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (Newport, R.I.) on the program as well as industry teammates involved with AN/BYG-1 combat control subsystems, including General Dynamics - Advanced Information Systems; Progeny; and Lockheed Martin. Based in Tewksbury, Mass., Integrated Defense Systems is Raytheon's leader in mission systems integration. With a strong international and domestic customer base, including the U.S. armed forces and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, Integrated Defense Systems provides integrated solutions for the air, surface and subsurface battlespace. Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), with 2003 sales of $18.1 billion, is an industry leader in defense, government and commercial electronics, space, information technology, technical services, and business and special mission aircraft.
